Then all of a sudden, she started to cry.

"Maddie, please don't cry. It's ok."

"No it's not. How can you say it's ok, when all this time, people have been hurting you and abusing you. It's not ok. at all."

I sighed, because again, she was right. It wasn't ok. But there just wasn't anything that either one of us could do about it. There just wasn't anything we could do to change it.

"And here I was, all this time, living a happy, carefree life in the suburbs, with everything under the sun. And all that time, you were suffering and you needed me, and I wasn't there for you, when you needed me the most."

"Maddie, no. Don't ever think like that. None of what happened to me was in anyway your fault. At all. It just happened. And no one's to blame."

"But, I could have been there for you. I could have helped you. You could have lived with me."

"Maddie, you were just a kid, the same as me. There's nothing either one of us could of done to change anything. We were both victims of circumstances."

"I guess. But I still feel so guilty, Alexis."

"Maddie, please don't. And I'm sorry to tell you all this. But I just want to be honest with you."

"No, I'm glad you did. I need to know", she said, as she tried to hold back her tears.

"Well, what if I told you some good news? Would that make you feel better?" I asked.
